Observations on the Principal Diseases of the Rectum and Anus: Particularly Stricture of the Rectum, the Haemorrhoidal Excrescence, and Fistula in Ano, 1824
London: Callow and Wilson, 1824. 1824 edition of a classic work by Thomas Copeland, “the founder of rectum surgery” (Wikipedia). First published in 1810, this work addressed the frequent occurrence of diseases of the rectum; prior to Copeland’s work, no special attention had been paid to the morbid state of the bowel. Copeland’s work established his reputation and fairly earned him the distinction of being the progenitor of the new and scientific treatment of diseases specific to the rectum. Item #1497
